The short version: Trace doesn't collect any of your data. We don't have accounts, ads, analytics or tracking, and your locations never reach us.
Where your data is
Each Group has its own server, which runs in the Cloudflare account of the person who created the Group (the Creator). Everything you share in Trace (your location, Places, History, battery level and whether you're walking, cycling or driving) goes only to that server. We can't see it or get to it. Cloudflare's privacy policy covers its hosting.
Sharing
People in your Group see what you share with them. The Creator controls the server and its Cloudflare account. Nothing passes through us.
Creating a Group
When you create a Group, you sign in to Cloudflare and allow Trace to install the server in your account. That permission stays on your phone and is only used to install your server. It's never sent to us.
Location and Motion
Trace uses your location and motion to keep your Group up to date, only when you've allowed it. You can change this in Settings at any time.
Notifications
If you allow them, Apple delivers notifications from your Group's server, for things like arrivals, SOS and requests. We don't send or store anything.
Security checks
When a phone joins a Group, Trace may ask Apple's App Attest to confirm it's the real app. The answer goes to your Group's server. It identifies the app, not you.
Crash reports
If you've chosen to share app analytics with developers in your device settings, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports. These are technical details, like your device model, system version and what the app was doing when it crashed. They don't include your location or anything else you share in Trace.
Deleting your data
Leaving a Group removes you from its server. The Creator can delete the server and everything on it from their Cloudflare account. As we hold nothing, there's nothing for us to delete.
Children
Trace doesn't collect data from anyone, including children. The Creator decides who to invite to their Group.
